The exception is the 3rd Sunday in the month, when we have Book of Common Prayer Matins with Canticle and a sung Psalm as well as hymns and a sermon.
Four times a year (that is in those months when there is a 5th Sunday), we have what we call a Service of Refreshment and Healing. This is a more reflective service with space and silence, and ends with the opportunity for people to come forward to ask for prayer for themselves or for people they care about.
The main bone of contention in many congregations seems to be the choice of hymns. We set out to choose hymns across a wide spectrum (which doesn’t agree with everyone!) Our hymn book is Hymns Old & New, which provides modern worship songs and traditional four-part harmony (favoured by the choir and others).
As well as a choir, we have a team of readers (we follow the Revised Common Lectionary), and members of the congregation assist at the Communion. Usually, refreshments are served after the Service.
Apart from two early morning Communions, which are Book of Common Prayer, all other Communion Services follow modern language options in Common Worship. For the main morning Service a service booklet is produced, which provides everything that a worshipper needs in one place apart from the text of the readings).
The Sunday School meets every Sunday and, for all Services except Matins, children are in church for the first and last parts of the Service.
Common Worship Evening Prayer is said almost every Sunday at 6pm (no sermon or hymns)
